These easy and festive Oreo truffles are perfect for Halloween parties, featuring a creamy Oreo and cream cheese filling dipped in black chocolate and decorated as black cats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 oz / 400 g) Oreos, crushed finely
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 12 oz (340 g) black candy melts or dark chocolate for dipping
  • Small candy eyes for decorating
  • Black decorating gel or melted chocolate for whiskers and nose details
  • 12 tsp vegetable shortening or coconut oil (optional, to thin chocolate)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos using a food processor until fine crumbs form (about 1 cup or 100 g). Alternatively, crush in a sealed plastic bag with a rolling pin.
  2. In a large bowl, combine Oreo crumbs with softened cream cheese. Add vanilla extract and salt if using. Mix until smooth and fully combined (3–5 minutes).
  3. Cover the mixture and refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up.
  4. Scoop about 1 tablespoon (15 g) of mixture and roll into smooth balls. Place on a parchment-lined tray with space between each.
  5. Refrigerate the shaped balls for another 30 minutes or until firm.
  6. Melt the black candy melts or dark chocolate with 1–2 tsp vegetable shortening or coconut oil using a microwave or double boiler until smooth.
  7. Dip each chilled ball into the melted chocolate, coating fully. Tap off excess and place back on parchment paper.
  8. Before the chocolate sets, press two edible eyes onto each truffle. Once dry, use black decorating gel or melted chocolate to pipe noses and whiskers.
  9. Let truffles set completely at room temperature or refrigerate for faster drying.

Notes

Soften cream cheese thoroughly before mixing to avoid lumps. Crush Oreos finely for smooth texture. Chill mixture before shaping to prevent stickiness. Thin chocolate with shortening or coconut oil for easier dipping. Decorate while chocolate is wet for best adhesion. Store in airtight container in fridge up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
