A quick and simple weeknight dinner featuring juicy chicken thighs glazed in a sticky honey garlic sauce that balances sweet and savory flavors perfectly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 2 pounds / 900 grams)
  • 1/4 cup (85 grams) honey (raw or wildflower preferred)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup soy sauce, minced garlic, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if using. Set aside. (5 minutes)
  2. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels to ensure a crispy sear. Season both sides with ground black pepper. (2 minutes)
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Heat until shimmering but not smoking. (2 minutes)
  4. Place chicken thighs skin-side down in the hot pan. Cook without moving for 6-7 minutes until skin is golden brown and crispy. Flip and cook for another 5 minutes on the other side. (12 minutes)
  5. Reduce heat to medium and pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over the chicken thighs. (1 minute)
  6. Simmer and glaze: Spoon the sauce over the chicken as it simmers, allowing it to thicken and become sticky—about 6-8 minutes. The chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). (8 minutes)
  7. Once the sauce has thickened and coats the chicken, remove from heat. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or sliced green onions. (2 minutes)

Notes

Dry the chicken skin thoroughly for a crispy sear. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain a golden crust. Control heat carefully to prevent the honey glaze from burning. Spoon sauce frequently to build layers of flavor. Use bone-in, skin-on thighs for juiciness. If glaze thickens too fast, lower heat and add a splash of water or chicken broth. A meat thermometer helps avoid overcooking.
