A quick and easy creamy yum yum sauce recipe that replicates the restaurant-style sauce perfect for sushi, dipping, and drizzling over various dishes. Made with simple pantry staples, it offers a balanced tangy, sweet, and mildly spicy flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup mayonnaise (120 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (30 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (15 ml)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (2.5 g)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder (2.5 g)
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (2.5 g)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (5 g)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 12 tablespoons water (1530 ml)
  • Optional: a few drops of hot sauce or cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Gather and measure all your ingredients. Mayonnaise should be at room temperature for easy mixing.
  2. Combine mayonnaise and ketchup in your mixing bowl. Whisk them together until the mixture is smooth and evenly colored.
  3. Add rice vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Whisk again to fully incorporate each seasoning.
  4. Slowly whisk in 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of water. Add up to another tablespoon if a thinner drizzle is desired.
  5. Taste and adjust by adding more sugar for sweetness, more rice vinegar for brightness, or hot sauce/cayenne for heat.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld (optional but recommended).
  7. Before serving, give the sauce a good stir or shake to recombine if separated.

Notes

Use room temperature mayonnaise for smooth mixing. Adjust seasoning gradually to balance flavors. Resting the sauce in the fridge for at least 30 minutes improves flavor melding. If sauce thickens after chilling, thin with a splash of water or rice vinegar. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Avoid freezing to maintain texture.
