These Crispy Mummy Jalapeño Poppers are a fun and flavorful Halloween party snack featuring spicy jalapeños filled with creamy cheese and wrapped in golden crescent dough for a crispy, festive treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 medium fresh jalapeños, halved and seeded
  • 8 ounces (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (100 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (8 oz or 227 g) crescent roll dough
  • Black sesame seeds or peppercorns for decorating eyes (optional)
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Wearing gloves, slice each jalapeño in half lengthwise and scoop out seeds and membranes unless extra heat is desired. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  4. Fill each jalapeño half generously with the cheese mixture using a spoon or piping bag.
  5. Unroll crescent dough onto a clean surface and slice into thin strips about 1/4 inch (6 mm) wide. Pinch seams if dough is perforated.
  6. Wrap each filled jalapeño half loosely with dough strips, leaving gaps to create a mummy look and a small space near the top for eyes.
  7. Brush each mummy with the beaten egg wash for a golden finish.
  8. Place two black sesame seeds or peppercorns near the top of each mummy for eyes, or use a tiny dab of cream cheese if preferred.
  9. Bake poppers on the prepared baking sheet for 15–18 minutes until dough is golden brown and puffed and cheese filling is bubbly.
  10. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Wear gloves when handling jalapeños to avoid irritation. Do not overfill the peppers to prevent cheese from oozing out. Wrap dough strips loosely to allow puffing and crisping. Use egg wash for a shiny golden crust. Tent with foil if dough browns too quickly. Let poppers cool slightly before serving to set filling and avoid burns. Reheat in oven to maintain crispness; avoid microwaving.
