This recipe delivers crispy, flavorful chicken thighs with a sticky honey garlic glaze using an air fryer. It’s quick, easy, and perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 2 pounds / 900g)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons honey (preferably raw honey)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels to ensure crisp skin.
  2. In a mixing bowl, toss the chicken with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Place the chicken thighs skin-side down in the air fryer basket, leaving space between pieces. Cook for 12 minutes.
  5. While the chicken cooks, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a small saucepan over low heat. Warm gently for 3-4 minutes without boiling, or microwave for 1 minute, watching carefully.
  6. Flip the chicken thighs skin-side up and brush the honey garlic glaze generously over each piece. Cook for another 8-10 minutes, brushing with more glaze halfway through if desired.
  7. Ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the skin is golden and crispy with a slightly caramelized glaze.
  8. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow juices to redistribute and glaze to set.

Notes

Pat chicken dry before seasoning for best crispiness. Apply glaze halfway through cooking to avoid burning. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to maintain crisp skin. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness. For gluten-free, substitute soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to restore crispiness.
