These Spooky Peanut Butter Spider Cookies are a festive twist on a classic peanut butter cookie recipe, perfect for adding a playful touch to your Halloween dessert spread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 24 chocolate kisses
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Candy eyes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the peanut butter and mix until fully incorporated. Then, beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls (about one tablespoon each) and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers will still look slightly soft—that’s perfect!
  8. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie while they’re still warm. Let the cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Once the cookies are completely cool, melt the mini chocolate chips and use a piping bag or toothpick to draw spider legs around the chocolate kiss.
  10. If desired, stick candy eyes onto the chocolate kiss using a dab of melted chocolate.

Notes

[‘Don’t overbake the cookies; they will continue to set as they cool.’, ‘Make sure your butter is softened to room temperature for easy mixing.’, ‘Chill the dough for 20-30 minutes if it feels sticky before rolling.’, ‘Decorating the cookies is a fun group activity—let everyone create their own spooky masterpiece!’]
