Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. This should take about 2 minutes with a mixer.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, pour in the maple syrup and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing, as it can make the bars tough.
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. It will be thick, so use a spatula to smooth it out.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. The edges should be golden, and the top should feel springy.
  8. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan for about 20 minutes. Then transfer them to a cooling rack.
  9. While the bars are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk for a thinner glaze or more powdered sugar for a thicker consistency.
  10. Once the bars are cool, drizzle the glaze evenly over the top. Use a spoon or a piping bag for more precision. Let the glaze set for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

[‘Let the bars cool completely before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting.’, ‘Use pure maple syrup for the best flavor.’, ‘Room temperature ingredients ensure a smooth batter.’, ‘For a thicker glaze, add powdered sugar gradually until desired consistency is reached.’, ‘Check the bars at the 25-minute mark to avoid overbaking.’]
