Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Peel the yams using a vegetable peeler, then slice them into 1/2-inch rounds. Arrange the slices evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine 4 tablespoons melted butter, 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup maple syrup, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
  4. Pour the glaze over the yams, making sure each slice is coated evenly. Use a spoon or spatula to spread the glaze if needed.
  5. In another mixing bowl, combine 1 cup chopped pecans, 4 tablespoons melted butter, and 1/4 cup all-purpose flour. Stir until the mixture forms a coarse crumbly texture.
  6. Sprinkle the pecan mixture evenly over the glazed yams.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20 minutes, or until the yams are tender and the topping is golden and crisp.
  8. Let the dish cool for about 5 minutes before serving. The glaze will thicken slightly as it rests.
