fresh caprese skewer appetizer - featured image

A quick and easy appetizer featuring juicy cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls, and basil leaves drizzled with sweet balsamic glaze. Perfect for parties and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Cherry or grape tomatoes
  • Fresh mozzarella balls (Bocconcini or Ciliegine)
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze
  • Extra virgin olive oil (optional)
  • Sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Wooden skewers or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Rinse and dry the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves gently with a kitchen towel. Drain the fresh mozzarella balls well to avoid any excess moisture.
  2. Start by threading one cherry tomato onto a skewer, followed by a fresh basil leaf folded neatly, then a mozzarella ball. Repeat this sequence once more if your skewers are longer (about 4-5 pieces per skewer). Leave a little space at the end for holding.
  3. Arrange the skewers on your serving platter. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  4. Using a spoon or small squeeze bottle, drizzle the balsamic glaze over the skewers evenly.
  5. Optionally, add a small drizzle of good quality extra virgin olive oil over the skewers.
  6. Let the skewers rest for 5 minutes at room temperature before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Assemble skewers up to 24 hours in advance and store covered in the fridge; add balsamic glaze just before serving to keep tomatoes firm. Use fresh mozzarella balls for best texture. Handle basil gently to avoid bruising. Optionally drizzle extra virgin olive oil for a silky finish.
