A quick and easy New Orleans BBQ shrimp recipe featuring creamy stuffed shrimp with bold Cajun spices and a buttery garlic sauce, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • About 1/3 cup cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning blend
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Juice of 1 fresh lemon
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry 1 pound of large peeled and deveined shrimp. Using a sharp paring knife, carefully make a lengthwise slit down the back of each shrimp without cutting all the way through to create a pocket.
  2. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of softened cream cheese into each shrimp’s slit. Gently press it closed, ensuring the cheese stays inside. Set aside in a bowl.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter with 2 tablespoons olive oil. Add 4 minced garlic cloves and sautΓ© for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Stir in 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning and 1 teaspoon smoked paprika. Cook for 30 seconds to toast the spices.
  5. Add the stuffed shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook undisturbed for 2 minutes, then gently flip and cook the other side for 2-3 minutes until shrimp are pink and opaque and cream cheese starts to melt.
  6. Pour in 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional), and juice from one lemon. Toss gently to coat shrimp and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat, sprinkle with 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.

Notes

If the butter sauce thickens too much, add a splash of water or broth to loosen it. Cook shrimp gently over medium heat to avoid rubbery texture. Softened cream cheese is essential for easy stuffing. Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook shrimp in batches if needed.
