Delicious Baked Italian Sub Sandwiches

These baked Italian sub sandwiches are the perfect comfort food, combining melted cheese, seasoned meats, and tangy dressing for a quick and satisfying lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

  • Sub rolls
  • Sliced deli meats (salami, ham, pepperoni)
  • Provolone cheese
  • Banana peppers
  • Red onion
  • Tomatoes
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Italian seasoning
  • Olive oil
  • Italian dressing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise, but don’t cut all the way through—leave them hinged so they hold the fillings better.
  3. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of olive oil with 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning. Brush the inside of each roll with the mixture for added flavor.
  4. Layer the fillings inside each roll. Start with the sliced deli meats—salami, ham, and pepperoni—folding them for extra texture.
  5. Add a layer of provolone cheese slices over the meats, ensuring even coverage for maximum meltiness.
  6. Top the cheese with banana peppers, thinly sliced red onion, and fresh tomato slices.
  7. Sprinkle some shredded lettuce over the veggies, then drizzle a small amount of Italian dressing for a tangy finish.
  8. Place the prepared subs onto the baking sheet. Cover them loosely with foil if you prefer softer bread.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges of the bread are lightly toasted.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the subs cool for 2-3 minutes before serving. Slice them in half for easier handling if desired.

Notes

[‘Use fresh sub rolls for the best texture—day-old bread tends to dry out during baking.’, ‘Don’t overload the sandwiches to prevent the bread from splitting.’, ‘For extra-crispy bread, skip the foil and bake the subs uncovered.’, ‘Layer ingredients strategically—start with meats, then cheese, followed by veggies for balanced flavors.’, ‘Sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes for extra flavor.’]
