Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound medium peeled and deveined shrimp, tails removed (fresh or thawed frozen)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (or almond flour for gluten-free)
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 12 tsp sriracha or hot sauce
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • Optional garnishes: sliced green onions, sesame seeds, fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry one pound of peeled and deveined shrimp.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and lime juice. Refrigerate to let flavors meld.
  3. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, beat the egg.
  4. Dip each shrimp into the beaten egg, then dredge thoroughly in the flour mixture. Place coated shrimp on a plate or baking sheet with space between them.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
  6. Arrange shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F for 4-5 minutes, flip or shake the basket, then cook another 4-5 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Transfer cooked shrimp to a bowl, toss with bang bang sauce, and garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, or cilantro if desired.

Notes

Pat shrimp dry thoroughly to ensure crispiness. Preheat the air fryer for best results. Cook shrimp in batches to avoid overcrowding. Adjust sriracha to control spice level. Sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight for deeper flavor. For gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with almond flour.
