Tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs with a smoky sweet apple butter glaze, perfect for gatherings or a hearty meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 pounds baby back ribs, trimmed and cleaned
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Pat the ribs dry with paper towels.
  2. Rub salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder generously over both sides of the ribs.
  3. Place the seasoned ribs on a rimmed baking sheet and tightly wrap them with aluminum foil.
  4. Roast in the oven for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender and the meat is starting to shrink away from the bones.
  5. Combine apple butter, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the glaze is smooth and slightly thickened.
  6. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat about 10 minutes before the ribs are done roasting.
  7. Remove the ribs from the oven and carefully unwrap them. Brush both sides generously with the apple butter BBQ glaze.
  8. Place the ribs on the hot grill, meat side down, and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side. Brush with more glaze while grilling to create a sticky, caramelized finish.
  9. Let the ribs rest for 5 minutes before slicing into individual ribs. Serve with extra glaze on the side.

Notes

[‘Low and slow roasting ensures tender ribs.’, ‘Wrapping the ribs tightly in foil locks in moisture.’, ‘Monitor grill heat to avoid burning the glaze.’, ‘Homemade apple butter can elevate the flavor.’, ‘Separate some glaze for serving to avoid cross-contamination.’]
